As part of our Community Planning & Sustainability team, you will contribute to a safer, more resilient Carnarvon. This is an opportunity to make a real impact through operational leadership, community engagement, emergency preparedness, and hands-on coordination of community safety programs that support both residents and visitors.
This is more than compliance — it’s leadership, connection, and community protection.
As our Coordinator Community Safety, you will:
Lead community safety operations, setting priorities and coordinating the work of Community Safety Officers.
Support emergency management preparedness, hazard mitigation programs, and multi-agency response and recovery.
Oversee tourism and coastal safety operations, including compliance and visitor welfare at high-use locations.
Lead complex investigations, enforcement actions, and local law compliance.
Build strong partnerships with DFES, WA Police, DBCA, SES, RSPCA, tourism operators, and community groups.
Provide a visible, community-focused presence across the Shire’s coastal, townsite, and remote areas.
Deliver community education initiatives that strengthen resilience, safety, and responsible tourism.
Prepare reports, maintain governance standards, and drive continuous improvement in service delivery and WHS.
You’ll join a committed team that plays a central role in keeping Carnarvon safe, supported, and well-prepared.
You’ll bring:
Experience in community safety, regulatory services, emergency management, or related operational fields.
Strong knowledge of Local Government legislation, compliance frameworks, investigations, and enforcement.
Leadership capability, with the ability to guide teams, manage complex issues, and coordinate multi-agency activity.
High-level communication and conflict-resolution skills, with confidence working across diverse community settings.
Strong organisation, decision-making, and reporting skills.
A commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
Alignment with our CARECHIP values — Courage, Authenticity, Respect, Excellence, Cohesion, Humility, Inclusion, Passion.
Experience working in regional or remote local government is highly regarded.
We value leaders who want to grow their career in a supportive, purpose-driven organisation.
