As part of our Community Planning & Sustainability team, you’ll contribute to a safe, connected, and resilient Carnarvon. As our Community Safety Officer, you will:
Deliver frontline community safety services through patrols, engagement, and enforcement of local laws.
Respond to community enquiries and complaints with professionalism and care.
Undertake investigations into issues such as dog attacks, firebreak compliance, littering, nuisance behaviour, and off-road vehicle activity.
Carry out animal management duties including impounding, transporting, and handling animals.
Provide a visible presence at high-use visitor locations such as the Blowholes, Coral Bay, and coastal reserves.
Support emergency preparedness and response activities including hazard inspections, seasonal readiness tasks, and operational support during incidents.
Assist with community education on local laws, responsible pet ownership, fire safety, and visitor behaviour expectations.
Maintain accurate notes, evidence, and compliance records.
You’ll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in ensuring Carnarvon remains safe, welcoming, and well-supported.
You’ll bring:
Experience in community safety, local laws, animal management, compliance, or a related regulatory field.
Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) legislation including the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, Litter Act 1979 and Local Government Act 1995.
Confidence handling animals and managing a variety of field-based tasks.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage calmly and respectfully with diverse community members.
Sound judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage challenging situations.
Physical capability to perform patrols, inspections, and outdoor operational duties.
A commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality service.

Experience working in regional or remote communities is highly regarded.

Your package includes:
Salary: $77,723.74 plus superannuation, district allowance & housing allowance (if eligible).
$3,500 retention bonus after 3 years’ service.*
